ERASMUS Intensive Language Course Latvian I (Beginners) For group of 10 students August 19, 2013 – September 6, 2013 Language component: objectives and teaching methods EILC comprise two parts: Latvian language learning and culture activities with integrated language learning. Part 1 Latvian language learning – 120 hours. Latvian language skills (speech, writing, listening, and reading) with the communicative and functional approach will be mastered in the course “Language communicative learning” (40 hours). Functional language use skills will be developed in the course “Language practice and introduction to the background studies of Latvia” (28 hours). Socio-cultural competence will be developed in socio-cultural seminars – “Latvia: stereotypes and reality”, “Latvian culture icons in street names” (8 hours). The course is completed by a test and analysis of the test results (4 hours). Part 2 Culture activities with integrated language learning – 48 hours. Duration Total number of classes - 128 h. Acommodation Students are housed in the dormitory of Daugavpils University located in the centre of the city. All rooms are double therefore students have to share the room with somebody. Students are provided with linen, blankets and pillows. The dormitory has laundry and common kitchen on each floor. Dishes, cutlery, pots and pans are provided. Internet access is available. If students do not wish to stay at a dormitory, it is advisable to make private housing arrangements beforehand. The price for the dormitory is LVL 50 per month.
